Penelope Tiffney of Spatial Designers, was appointed by University of Leeds in 2008 to provide the interior design scheme for the recently completed 460 ensuite student residence Storm Jameson Court on campus.

The halls will receive its first students this month and has upped the standards of student living. Replacing the former Charles Morris Halls, by Chamberlin, Powell & Bon, which were demolished in 2009 to make way for this new state-of-the-art accommodation, which provides facilities for both students and conference delegates throughout the year.

With a 24 hour reception with it’s Altro Digiclad image adds impact on entrance, which leads onto a lounge with sun terrace, this student common room has the feeling of elegance and luxury offering residences café style seating, low soft seating with a 52” LCD screen, hotdesking and games area.

The traditional cluster flat arrangement has been replaced with hotel-style corridors, accessed with programmed key fobs. Entering into the bedrooms, the purposely-designed bathroom pods built by Walker Modular, are curved externally, with a white gloss interior and contemporary sanitary fittings with an Altro Timber safe flooring and glazed shower cubicles. Penelope and Walker Modular specifically designed the bathroom pod for the Storm Jameson scheme.

The contemporary design of the built in furniture, has all been designed to make best use of the space. Displaying maximum storage both above and below the double bed. With a floating desk allowing a complete view of the full-length window with it’s coloured pane.
The accommodation also fully facilitates students with varying levels of disabilities with 26 rooms assigned to accommodate disabled students.
All the specified finishes and fixtures throughout Storm Jameson, from the carpets and colours to the lighting are far away from the university digs of the past with it’s walnut furniture, muted tones and bold feature walls of the kitchens this is a development that offers exceptional quality and will undoubtedly be a firm favourite with the students.
